How to teach your dog to jump over any object.
This is an easy “trick” to teach that can come in handy when there are puddles or other obstacles your dog needs to get over.
SAFETY TIP #1 – The guideline for agility is for a dog to jump over things that are shoulder height. If your dog is young & fit, you can try even more on a soft surface. (Musik Ulbrich, pictured below, can go about 50% higher than her shoulder height, for instance).
SAFETY TIP #2 – Be careful if you have an older dog or a dog with any leg or back issues. You can teach them to “jump” over things that are just a few inches high and on carpeting or yoga mats, etc. to be safe.
SAFETY TIP #3 – Speaking of carpeting & yoga mats, make sure you don’t have a set up where your dog has to jump from or onto a hard, slippery surface. They need to have good footing to ensure a safe take-off AND landing.
